Gachagua Reveals Huge Fight With Ruto that Led to His Impeachment

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua launched a scathing attack on Kenya Kwanza leaders on Sunday, November 24, accusing them of being afraid to confront President William Ruto. Speaking during a church service at AIPCA Kangari in Kigumo, Murang’a County, Gachagua offered candid insights into his fallout with the President and shed light on contentious issues within the government.

A Rift Over the Adani Deal

Gachagua claimed his unwavering stance on the controversial Adani deal was a major source of conflict with President Ruto. The former DP alleged he was the only Cabinet member bold enough to challenge the President’s decisions when they appeared detrimental to the public.

“The Adani issue was the source of friction between myself and the President,” Gachagua said. “In the Cabinet, I was the only one who could speak the truth. When the President stared at others, they all bowed down.”

He accused fellow Cabinet Secretaries of lacking the courage to express dissent, revealing that they often relied on him to voice their concerns.

“I told the President the Adani deal was flawed and that the people did not want it. But instead, I was branded an enemy of progress,” Gachagua added.

The Adani controversy involved allegations of corruption in a multi-billion-shilling government project, which ultimately led to the severance of ties between Kenya and the Indian conglomerate. Gachagua suggested the decision to cut ties was only made after pressure from the U.S. government.

Political Fallout and Impeachment

Gachagua’s remarks come just three weeks after his impeachment as Deputy President, marking a dramatic turn in his political career. The former DP’s public criticisms suggest a man willing to take risks in a bid to solidify his influence, particularly in the Mount Kenya region, ahead of the 2027 elections.

He has repeatedly hinted at his determination to rally the Mount Kenya voting bloc, suggesting that the region's electorate does not easily forget betrayals.

Concerns Over Safety

Amid his ongoing political feud, Gachagua raised concerns about his personal safety. He claimed to have been trailed by unmarked vehicles on Thursday, November 21, following him from his residence to the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) in Kerarapon.

Through his social media platforms, Gachagua alleged that unidentified cars were parked outside his house, fueling fears of intimidation.

A Polarizing Figure

Known for his outspoken nature and self-styled reputation as a “truthful man,” Gachagua’s statements have continued to polarize the political landscape. While his latest comments highlight his rift with President Ruto, they also underscore the challenges within Kenya Kwanza as the coalition braces for the 2027 elections.

As the battle for political supremacy intensifies, Gachagua’s moves will likely remain under close scrutiny as he attempts to navigate an increasingly precarious political terrain.
