KRA TAX REGISTER CLEANUP

### Kenya Revenue Authority Urges Citizens to Verify Mobile Contacts in Tax Register Cleanup

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has launched an initiative urging taxpayers to verify and update their mobile contact information as part of a nationwide tax register cleanup exercise. The campaign seeks to ensure that accurate and up-to-date information is maintained in the KRA’s records, improving communication with taxpayers and streamlining the tax collection process.

This move is part of a broader effort by the KRA to seal loopholes that tax evaders exploit to bypass their obligations. Many tax evaders have previously manipulated outdated or incorrect contact information to avoid detection and communication from the authority. By ensuring that all registered taxpayers have verified and authentic mobile numbers linked to their accounts, the KRA aims to reduce fraudulent activities and enforce greater accountability.

The cleanup exercise also aligns with the government's broader digitization strategy to modernize tax collection and compliance. Taxpayers are encouraged to cooperate by visiting the KRA website or service centers to update their details, as non-compliance could result in penalties or deregistration. This initiative signals a strong stance against tax evasion and a commitment to enhancing Kenya’s revenue system for economic growth and development.
